The Best Bible Study for Married Women (Rooted in John 15:5)
Jul 24, 2026Marriage Investors,
A note from Valerie for the wives reading this.
If you've been searching for a Bible study for married women—something that goes deeper than tips and to-do lists—I want to share the truth that changed everything for me. It's found in one verse: "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
For years I thought a better marriage came from trying harder—communicating better, serving more, keeping the peace. Those things matter. But I learned that the real transformation doesn't start with what I do for my marriage. It starts with where I'm abiding. Abiding in God transforms your marriage from the inside out.
Why "abiding" changes everything
Notice what Jesus says: apart from Him, we can do nothing. Not a little—nothing that lasts. When I try to pour into my husband and my home out of my own strength, I run dry, get resentful, and start keeping score. But when I stay connected to the Vine—rooted in His presence, His Word, and His love—the fruit comes almost as a byproduct. Patience I didn't manufacture. Grace I didn't feel like giving. Peace that steadies our home even when circumstances don't.
A married woman who abides isn't a passive wife. She's a deeply rooted one. And a rooted wife changes the whole atmosphere of a marriage.
What a Bible study for married women should do
If you're choosing a study, look for one that:
- Points you to Christ first, not just your husband. Your marriage will always be downstream of your walk with God.
- Is honest about real life. Not a picture of a perfect wife who has it all together—but grace for the woman who doesn't.
- Gives you something you can actually live out in the ordinary rhythms of your week.
- Works wherever you are—on your own, with a friend, in a small group, or on a women's retreat.
An invitation to abide
This is exactly why I wrote Abiding in Marriage: The Heart of Her Husband, a study built on John 15:5 for wives who want their marriage to flow from their relationship with God. It's a five-session study using what I call the ABIDE framework, and it's designed for personal reflection, small groups, and church retreats alike.
It's not a study about being a better wife through willpower. It's about staying so connected to the Vine that the fruit—love, patience, gentleness, joy—grows in you and spills into your marriage.
If your heart is stirring as you read this, I'd love for you to begin. You can explore Abiding in Marriage here—whether for yourself, a group of friends, or the women in your church.
Stay rooted. The fruit will come.
